Fuel Hikes Cause Protests in Zimbabwe. Blog 2

In an effort to tackle a fuel shortage, and unwelcome illegal trading, Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa ordered that the price of fuel nearly double overnight on January 14th, 2019. As a result of this, violent protests have erupted throughout the cities of Harare and Bulawayo. Specifically in Harare, businesses closed for a three-day strike. Protestors burned tires in the middle roads, and set up blockades. Owen Ncube, Security Minister, did confirm that deaths had occurred, but did not have a number. Fuel prices have fluctuation as the market rates for crude oil, as well competition prices, change often.
