Coup in Gabon

On January 7th, 2019, a coup took place in the African State of Gabon, on the west side of the continent. According to an article published by the BBC, it seems unlikely that a coup would happen here. In comparison with the other states, Gabon has seen much less political unrest. Since 1960, they have only had three presidents. Around 4:30 AM local time, five young insurgents seized control of a national radio station to read a statement regarding the formation of a "National Restoration Council". They called on other soldiers to take control of the transport system, as well as the airports, and ammunition reserves. As of right now, the situation has been ended, and everything seems normal at the capital.

So why would a coup take place in a state that seems to have political stability on paper, and only three presidents? President Ali Bongo's current term, which he was elected to in 2016, has been shadowed by a long-running French investigation into the assets of the Bongo family. Apparently they've been accused of embezzlement. But it seems that these rumors do not have any standing, as there appears to be no articles related to this.
