In an article from the New York Times on January 20th, 2019, 10 Chadian peacekeepers were killed at a United Nations base located in the northeastern village of Aguelhok, Mali on Sunday. A branch of Al-Qaeda in Northwestern Africa took responsibility for the attack in response to Chad restarting diplomatic relations with Israel. This UN base in particular is located in on of the most troubled regions of Mali, and have recently been caught in the cross fire of insurgency.
