Part 2 of Cyclone Idai.

In last week's blog post, I discussed the massive cyclone that tore through Beira, Mozambique. As of today (March 27th, 2019) the death toll has risen to 750 people. Cyclone debris is being cleared from the streets as the rain eases. Much of the city's telecommunication infrastructure was destroyed in the storm, but at least two telephone networks are operating again. But unfortunately the service is still intermittent. While it is understandable to not have telecommunication right after a storm, the most surprising service still down is credit card payments. This is frightening because if citizens do not have cash, how else will they pay?

Lastly, those in remote areas can only wait for the water to recede.
